Age Suitability
Shedams is built for people aged 13 to 93. This page explains our rating, what content to expect, and how we protect younger users.
1. Our Ratings
Shedams is classified by each store as follows:
- Apple App Store: 17+ (global). Regional variations: A16 in Brazil, 18+ in France.
- Google Play Store: 12+ (Teen).
The two stores use different rating frameworks (Apple's is based on its own content questionnaire; Google Play uses the IARC questionnaire), which is why the same app receives different numbers. Both ratings reflect the same underlying content: a moderated social fitness community with third-party advertising and location-aware features.
The minimum age to create a Shedams account is 13 years old. The App Store and Play Store age ratings above are content-classification labels set by each store and are independent of our account-eligibility policy. Members aged 13 to 17 must sign up with a parent or guardian's knowledge and consent.
Why Apple rates the app 17+: the App Store applies a higher rating whenever an app combines unmoderated user-generated content, third-party advertising, and access to location data — which Shedams does to deliver its social and mapping features. The 12+ Play Store rating reflects the same content under Google's questionnaire, where moderated UGC and location data sit at the Teen tier.
2. Health and Wellness Content
Shedams provides information and features related to physical fitness, including:
- Activity tracking for walking, running, and cycling
- Estimated calorie burn, pace, distance, and streak metrics
- Fitness quests, challenges, and league rankings
- General wellness tips shared by our community
Shedams is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Calorie and heart-rate metrics are estimates only. Consult a healthcare professional before starting any exercise program, and stop exercising immediately if you feel pain, dizziness, or discomfort.
3. User-Generated Content
Shedams includes social features — activity feeds, comments, and challenges — where members share their workouts with each other. To keep this space safe:
- Every member must agree to our Terms of Service before posting.
- Every post has a Report option so members can flag objectionable content to our moderation team.
- Every post has a Block user option — blocked members' posts, comments, and activity are hidden from your feed immediately.
- Our moderation team is notified of every report and block, and reviews reports within 24 hours.
- Accounts that violate our Terms of Service are warned, suspended, or permanently removed.
4. What Shedams Does Not Contain
- No gambling, contests of chance, or real-money gaming.
- No nudity, sexual content, or explicit material.
- No alcohol, tobacco, or drug references.
- No graphic violence.
- No unrestricted web browsing inside the app.
Shedams does display third-party advertising. Free accounts see ads from Google's AdMob network with a PG content filter enabled. Premium subscribers see no ads.
5. Parental Guidance (Teens 13–17)
If your teen uses Shedams, we recommend the following:
- Review this policy and our Privacy Policy together.
- Set profile visibility to Friends or Private in Settings → Privacy.
- Encourage your teen to use the Report and Block tools whenever they see something that makes them uncomfortable.
- Talk to them about healthy exercise patterns — Shedams' streaks and rewards are meant to motivate, not pressure.
6. How We Enforce This Policy
Our moderation team reviews every reported post. When a post or account violates our Terms of Service or this Age Suitability policy, we take one or more of the following actions:
- Remove the content from the feed.
- Warn the author or require them to re-accept our Terms.
- Suspend the account temporarily.
- Permanently ban the account.
Users who file repeat false reports may also have their reporting privileges restricted.
